I have been told by some people that they can’t take vitamin or other nutritional supplements because they are allergic to them. That tells me one thing to do: check what is in the supplements that caused the reaction.
The situation regarding supplementation is often a difficult one for various reasons. One that is particularly annoying is the production of very poor quality products. Manufacturers produce them for willing marketers and on-sellers whose only motivation seems to be a quick buck. It’s not about health, it’s all about money.
Now I certainly don’t begrudge people making money. But I do have a problem with people doing so at the expense of not only other people’s wallets, but also their health. Be warned, consuming poor quality vitamin and mineral supplements can be quite dangerous in both the short term and the long term.
In the short term one may encounter an allergic reaction, like many I have dealt with. In the long term the problem may actually be just about anything. Indeed, presenting health problems may never be traced back to the poor quality supplements. So what causes these problems?
Well it’s certainly not the vitamins and minerals that are supposed to be in the supplements. It very often is however, the added extras that are commonly placed into the products. This is true for all forms of products so don’t fall for the marketing argument that liquid formulations are pure and only tablets and capsules have the problem, because that simply isn’t the case.
Quite apart from the tendency for cheap, low quality supplements to be synthetic rather than natural, which is a different issue, they also tend to use cheap filler materials. These added extras bulk up the product to make them appear more substantial, which makes them easier to sell. They frequently add preservatives, decaking agents, coloring, and more.
Actually there are 24 separate items listed on the page Usefulness of Inorganics at Healthy Vitamin Choice. Take a look at the list and check the label on your supplements or those you are considering purchasing to see if they are present. If they are, find better quality supplements as soon as possible.
It is a sad irony when health products make a person sick. Don’t for one moment imagine that this only relates to nutritional supplements though. Countless thousands of people are made sick, sicker, disabled and yes, even killed by parmaceutical drugs every year.
With some knowledge and some action you can indeed maximize your health. Choose your way wisely.
